Frida's Space

1991, 20 years ago, was the first time I participated in an international championship, The world championship in Tokyo. It was, and is still today the most fantastic memory from my life as an athlète. To live and compete among the worlds best athlètes, to be one of them, was incredible. To do the warming up with them before the competition, to see their experience and confidence can be a bit scary the first time. But when you enter the arena, in front of 50 000 spectators, ready to go down in your starting blocks, you must only focus on yourself, your own lane, your own race, your hurdles without any respect for the others no matter how big stars they are.. And me, this little girl of 21 years old, from a very small town in the north of Sweden, ran as I had never ran before, and I qualified to the semi-finals with a new personal record. In the semi-finals I ran even faster 55,36s, still my fastest time ever and ended 10th in the world! (the 8 best qualified to the final) For me it was a fantastic succes and I wasn't even disappointed that I didn't make the final. Everything in life seemed easy and I enjoyed the best days of my life.
